Lloyds Bank | René Meijer

“We take customers through their options for making their home more sustainable in a playful way. The advice they end up with is useful and personalised. We hadn’t seen a tool like this in the market before.”

Introduction

Lloyds Bank in the Netherlands and Yellowtail Conclusion developed a digital sustainability flow that makes it easy for customers to start making their home more sustainable. With this tool, Lloyds Bank takes a clear step towards a greener mortgage portfolio and a more sustainable society.

Background

Making the housing market more sustainable is an urgent task. European and Dutch climate targets, such as those in the Dutch Climate Agreement (Klimaatakkoord), set a clear goal: by 2030, 1.5 million existing homes need to be more sustainable. For Lloyds Bank, that’s a clear call to action. As a mortgage lender, the bank sees it as its responsibility to encourage and support customers in improving their home’s energy label (the Dutch equivalent of an EPC rating).

The challenge

The challenge is clear: how do you get homeowners to actually take steps towards a more sustainable home? Lloyds Bank decided to take on that challenge together with Yellowtail Conclusion.

The starting point

Quote

Together with Yellowtail Conclusion, Lloyds Bank developed an accessible, smart online sustainability flow. The starting point? Convenience, simplicity and relevance for the customer at every step.

Intuitive interface

Customers enter only a few details, such as their home address. The tool automatically enriches this input with data from external sources, such as the Dutch Land Registry (Kadaster). Customers then choose a personal sustainability goal (such as lower costs, CO₂ reduction or a more comfortable home) and immediately receive tailored advice.

Simple and personal

The advice shows possible measures (such as solar panels, insulation and ventilation) and their expected impact on things like the energy label, the energy bill and comfort at home. All completely free of obligation, but clear and motivating. The strength of the flow lies in its simplicity and personal approach: customers get relevant information quickly, in a way that genuinely gets them moving.

The result

Lloyds Bank describes the partnership with Yellowtail Conclusion as professional and efficient. Thanks to a shared vision on customer focus and technology, the teams delivered the solution both quickly and carefully.

Ambitions for a greener future

For now, the flow is available to existing customers, but the ambitions go further. Lloyds Bank is exploring ways to offer the tool to new customers too. That way, the flow could help make more homes in the Netherlands sustainable on a larger scale, and contribute to a greener future.
